Frequently Asked Questions

Please contact the item’s home library in this event. Each library has its own set of policies and we cannot answer definitively how certain libraries would like to proceed in this situation. RHCL would ideally like cash or check in the value of the item. Please contact the library before payment as the damage may be deemed light enough to not require replacement. An item replacement bought directly by the patron is acceptable at the discretion of the director.

Great! Thank you for thinking of us! Please check to see if the items are decent/like-new condition. Please do not donate items that are moldy, smell of strong odors (e.g. cigarettes, pet urine, etc.), or are otherwise overly dirty or damaged. We cannot accept text books, reference items such as dictionaries, encyclopedias, etc. or obsolete formats such as VHS. Please donate your items inside the library during open hours. Items left outside may be discarded. For large amounts (3+ boxes) please ask the library before donating. Please be aware that most donated items are put in our book sales and are not added to our collection.

We can do this in two ways: Donating money to the library for us to purchase the item, or for you to donate the item directly. We would prefer the first method, but will accept the second one at the discretion of the director. To donate, please fill out this form (link here) and fill out PART 1 only. Forms are also available at the library. For other ways of honoring a loved one, please contact the library to discuss options.

If you already have a card from a public library in Niagara, Orleans, or Genesee county, you can use it here! We are all part of the Nioga System, so all of our cards work at each other’s libraries! This however, does not include cards from other systems, such as the Buffalo-Erie Library System or the Monroe County Library System. If you live outside the Nioga Library System service range, a membership card can be purchased for $40.

We will do our best! If it’s easily acquirable (easy to find and within our budget) we will happily purchase your item for you. We also can contact Nioga about their ability to borrow it from a different library system.
